SI #11
My SI:
How my self-worth and mental health affects me as a person and representing that through animal symbolism
Intention for SI #11:
In this piece, I wanted to represent the idea of masking emotions and how one changes personalities depending on the environment and situation around them. This idea resonates with me quite a bit because I often mask the emotions I would prefer not to release. Which often times doesn't work in the long run and leads to future consequences I have to deal with due to the fact that I chose to mask those emotions.
Alongside the change in personality depending on where I am. I often change how I act, speak, and interact with the people around me depending on the situation. Almost acting like a person I prefer to be perceived as compared to how I really am. Showing the difference between how I act with people I'm comfortable with compared to those I'm not as comfortable with.
Idea for SI #11:
I'm wanting to represent this idea through the animal I chose for this piece. For this piece I decided to choose a unicorn, a beautiful mythical animal that is often seen in fairy tales and in fiction. A make believe animal that's meant to be a horse with mythical traits. I chose this animal due to the innocence and beauty its known for as a fictional species. Its innocence and beauty matches the idea I'm wanting to represent within this piece.
This image of unicorns matches with the personality and emotions I mask myself with. However, to instead represent the not so innocent and beauty it shows, I'm wanting to show it in a state of vulnerability and lack of purity. Seeing it in a state that's not often seen and or represented within fairy tales and fiction. I'm deciding to perceive and represent the unicorn as hurt and vulnerable within this piece instead of its usual innocence and purity.
Questions I Have:
Since I'm wanting to show the unicorn in this piece as aching and in a state of discomfort. How else do you believe I should represent this feeling and idea? What should I add to this piece in order for you to feel the unicorns vulnerability?

Summary of Intention for SI #11
How I mask my emotions and switch personalities and how I'm wanting others to perceive me depending on the situation. While representing this through a unicorn, a mythical species known for its innocence, purity, and beauty as a fictional animal in fairy tales and such. Where we are instead seeing it in a state where these characteristics aren't as represented and perceived.
Progress Works for SI #11
To answer your question, I think you can angle the unicorn's head diagonal to the art board with its head down to show a sense of depression. Then, with some different shades of grey colors to better demonstrate this "depressive" theme. And possibly a tear drop in the corner of the unicorn's eyes that has a spakle effect. And for the unicorn's hair I also think you can do something interesting with it. For example some artistic photographs of people crying in the rain with their hair all over their faces is what I have in my mind.
I think you should make the color of the unicorns skin (?) dark and depressing to make the contract of the hair which is magical and bright to represent the mask that you use to mask your emotions. For SI 12 I think there should be one maybe about all of the animals you used to represent you. They could be around you with you in the middle. I dont really know what that would be about but that would seem cool to finally like as a conclusion have you in the last piece ykwim?
I love the idea! Are you going to paint the unicorn like in the example piece? I think it would be nice to do dramatic lighting. I would also make the hair of the unicorn more messy instead of neat.
For SI 12, I would do the animals maybe running in a field, etc in a scene of "self-acceptance" instead of dispair.
